This past Friday, the CES 2018 trade show in Las Vegas, USA just wrapped up. As tech giants from around the world descended on Vegas to show off their most advanced products yet, here are some of the biggest highlights from CES 2018.

 

Bigger and Better TVs

 

Some of the biggest news to come out of CES 2018 is how the reveal of several unique pieces of TV technology. LG unveiled a 65-inch roll-able OLED screen, announced current plans to work in voice assistants to future TVs, and shared how they were developing the world’s first 8K TV.

 

Meanwhile, Samsung announced a massive 146-inch display made up of micro LEDs that it calls ‘The Wall’. Samsung also announced an 8K QLED TV to be released to consumers in the second half of this year which will use an AI to adjust screen resolution according to what media is being shown at the time.

 

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga laptop

Impressively designed, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 yoga is a laptop that bends backwards with the keyboard sitting on surface while the screen is angled towards the viewer. The specs are impressive, and the microphone picks up 360-degrees making it easy to conference with others and tap into Cortana whenever a user needs to.

 

Toyota’s commitment to autonomous driving

Autonomous driving seems to be where the future is headed, like it or not, and to this point Toyota has announced an on-demand autonomous vehicle complete with business applications support and more. Named the ‘e-Palette’, the automated electric vehicle is designed to make ride sharing, delivery, and other vehicular uses easier than ever before.

 

Kate Spade Watch

The high fashion Kate Spade unveiled a new line of smart watches with touchscreen capabilities that allow it to change its color depending on the time of day, color of jewelry, and what outfit you’re wearing.

5G Connectivity Devices

As the world is still hooked on to 4G connectivity for smartphones, tablets, and mobile devices, the next level 5G is just around the corner. Though the products using 5G connectivity are not quite consumer-ready yet, there’s promise of this coming within the next few years. To get an idea of how fast it is, on 4G, you can download a movie in roughly six minutes. To download that same movie on 5G, grab it in less than 4 seconds!

This year’s CES provided glimpses into where the future of tech products are headed. As these highlights are gradually released into the consumer marketplace in the coming years, it will be interesting to see what succeeds in attracting Canadian consumers.
